Staging a Kitchen to Impress Potential Buyers

There’s more to staging a kitchen than freshly baked bread and a vase of flowers, though they are a good start. Kitchens are often considered the heart of the home, and we know that buyers are easily off put by those which are not appealing visually and functionally. While a complete kitchen renovation may not be on the cards, though we do offer design consultancy services for that too, we’ve got plenty of great suggestions for you to try.

6 Tips for Staging a Kitchen

Buyers are looking for kitchens that are light and bright, spacious, functional, clean, tasteful, and welcoming. A consultation with our interior design and staging team will provide you with a clear direction forward that is unique to your property. In the meantime, these six kitchen staging ideas can help you get started:

  1. Get cleaning – a spotless kitchen is crucial! From the ceilings through to the floor, your kitchen must sparkle with cleanliness in all areas. This includes inside the cupboards and drawers, appliances, and the rubbish bin. Dirt and odours are not allowed.

  2. Bring in the plants – sell your buyers the vision of themselves chopping herbs they’ve grown on the windowsill, enjoying the peacefulness and tranquillity of the room (see our plant staging services here).

  3. Choose an accent colour – often a kitchen is decorated in neutral colours, which buyers love. But having an accent colour chosen from one of the adjacent rooms helps improve flow between rooms and attract the buyer’s eye. Bowls, tea towels and even soap are great accessories to display this colour.

  4. Declutter – pack up your spice rack, multiple dinner sets and that drawer of containers missing their lids. A kitchen that looks spacious with minimal items is preferable.

  5. Consider your bench – a kitchen bench is not only a useful item, but a visually important one too. While a replacement marble bench may be out of the budget, consider having an engineered stone or high-quality laminate top installed to compliment your existing cabinetry. Make a careful selection of items to stage on your bench. Crockpots and toasters should go away, while a bowl of fruit or a cookbook on a stand can set the scene.

  6.  Focus on the lighting – the traditional bungalow or apartment kitchen has one light fitting in the centre of the ceiling. This just isn’t useful nor attractive. Install LEDs above workspaces and under upper cabinets and remove and replace fluorescent and single bulb fittings to enhance your kitchen’s appeal.
